A contract worker was found dead on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University on Wednesday morning.
The victim was found at the Peck Hall building on campus after the Murfreesboro and Campus police were dispatched around 7:17 a.m. in response to a dead body in the building.
According to the police, the victim entered the building alone around 3 a.m. When officials arrived, they performed life-saving measures but were unsuccessful, and it was later determined that the individual took his own life.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released as their family has not yet been notified.
In response, the university closed Peck Hall and its offices, along with canceling classes in the building
for the rest of the day.
The MPD and MTSU Campus Police have pointed out there is no immediate threat to the university and the students are safe.
The Murfreesboro Police is now leading the investigation and will release updates that are appropriate to the case.
Students and faculty were alerted of this incident as the investigation was taking place through the university’s automated alert system.
The university emphasizes the importance of the Rave Alert notification system,
