Five Rutherford Sheriff Deputies earned the Jerry Anderson Hero Award on Saturday at MTSU after saving two victims from fires in Murfreesboro.

Sgt. Ethan Shenefield, SRO Jamie Murphy and Deputy Steve Hill received this award after saving a man from a house fire. Deputy Steve Hill responded to a call about a victim being trapped in a house fire on March 23rd. Larry Adams was trapped in his back bedroom when Shenefield, Murphy, and Hill rescued Adams after climbing through his back bedroom window and were able to remove him and move him to safety.

Deputy Nathanial Harrington and Deputy Christina Hill received this award after their heroic act after saving a driver from a burning car on October 24th off East Jefferson Park. Maurice Jennings was injured and trapped in her burning car when Harrington and Hill were called to his rescue. Harrington and Hill risked their lives to remove Jennings safely from his burning car.

Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh stated, “Our deputies risked their own lives to save a resident who could not escape from his burning home and a driver trapped in his burning car,” Fitzhugh said. “I am grateful for their heroic actions saving these men’s lives.”
