The Tennessee Department of Health confirmed that 10 children have died from the flu so far this season.
Over 41,000 Tennesseans have tested positive for the virus in almost half of the state’s 95 counties.
Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey urged residents to get a flu shot as soon as possible. ‘’It’s extremely important for young children, the elderly and pregnant women to receive a flu vaccine because they are at the most serious risk for illness or death from influenza.”
Local health department clinics began offering the flu shot at no charge in December as long as supplies last. Visit www.tn.gov/health/health-program-areas/localdepartments.html for a list of department locations.
