MTSU’s production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is showing now through Sunday November 7 at Tucker Theatre. Scroll to the bottom of this article for some tips & tricks to attending the show.
Opening night was a hit! The cast and crew put on a magnificent production, and the audience absolutely loved it.
If you’re a student and you’ve walked through the Boutwell Dramatic Arts building, you might have seen the set on tv screens along on the first floor. It was truly a sight to see! It was beautifully complex yet so simple. The show was full of twists and turns and a few jump scares, too. Whether you’re a theatre aficionado or you enjoy the technical things or you just enjoy a good story, this is a show for you!
Tips & Tricks:
• You can buy tickets online at https://www.mtsu.edu/theatreanddance/SweeneyTodd.php or at the ticket booth. Buying your tickets online is preferred and will certainly secure a seat.
• The baseball field’s parking lot was filled by 7:10, but there’s a parking lot across from it that was still pretty empty and is on the other side of the street from Tucker Theatre.
• When you arrive, there will be a line at the entrance of the theatre to check your tickets and your temperature. A mask is required. More than likely, you’ll be waiting outside for a few minutes, so bring a jacket!
The bottom seating area of the theatre was basically full at 7:20. However, the seating upstairs was basically empty! Seeing the show upstairs give you a beautiful perspective on the set because you see more of its depth.
The show ran for about three hours (including an intermission). The first act ran for one hour and forty minutes, and the show ended before 10:30pm. The bathroom lines were insanely long during intermission.
When the show ended, there was a mad rush for the exit, but if you take your time and wait about 5 minutes, the exit is easy.
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd, and enjoy the show!
