Blue Raider Soccer Comes Away with Tie Against UTEP

By MTN Sports Reporter: Ian Wolfe

The MTSU Women’s Soccer tied UTEP 1-1 last night at home in a game that the Blue Raiders could have won with the Miners scoring a goal with 12 minutes left to end the game in a tie.

MTSU kept control for most of the game and Coach Aston Rhoden was happy with some of the improvements the team. “We did a much better job off maintaining possession of the ball and moving the ball around enough to create scoring chances.” Also saying, “So I do like the progress we’ve made in that we still need to finish our opportunities, we create a lot of them.”

The result is not what the Blue Raiders had hoped for after leading for most of the game with MTSU conceding late to let UTEP back in the match. “The result is not what we wanted, especially given how we dominated this game.” Coach Rhoden said. Continuing, “In critical moments is when we’ve been giving up goals, it’s a matter of still being patient and knowing that, in time, they’ll understand how critical these mistakes can be.”

This game puts MTSU at 4-8-3 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference. The Blue Raiders sit last in Conference-USA and will need a win against Louisiana Tech to edge a little closer to qualifying for the conference tournament. MTSU will play Louisiana Tech away in Ruston, Louisiana on Sunday, October 15th at Robert Mack Caruthers Field at 1 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
