The MTSU men’s basketball team falls to last place in Conference USA after a second-half comeback falls short in a 75-70 loss against North Texas on Thursday night.
Antonio Green tied the game up at 63-63 with 3:31 left in the game after the Blue Raiders were down 13 points late in the second half.
“There was no game-plan for me to shoot the threes, it was just there," said Green, who led the Blue Raiders with 18 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. "Coach drew up a play, I had an open shot and the next thing I know I made one and just so happened to do it two more times and to get us in reach.”
MTSU couldn't get over the hump, missing their next three shots in the closing minutes.
“We tried to switch up defense as much as we could to keep North Texas off-balanced but they were able to handle it,” said MTSU head coach Nick McDevitt, whose team falls to 6-18 overall, 2-9 in the conference. “I thought that they did a lot of good things out there to win the game, but I think we did a lot of good things to try and win the game. "
The game was another close one for the Blue Raiders. Six of the team's nine conference losses have been by six points or less.
“It felt good to hear the fan’s cheer," said Green. "It hasn’t been subtle but it hasn’t been too absent. It is something that we want to carry with us to make the fans happy.”
MTSU hosts Rice on Saturday at 5 p.m.
