Coffee County boys, girls advance to Region 4-AAA semis

Coffee County knocked off Riverdale on Monday to make it to the Region 4-AAA semi-finals.


The Raiders took a three point lead into halftime and never gave it back, holding on to win 64-56.


Coffee County will play at Blackman tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.


The Raiders led 13-9 after the first quarter and kept control for the rest of the game. They led 24-21 at the half and 42-34 at the end of the third quarter. Coffee County iced the game down the stretch from the free throw line while Riverdale was trying to make a late comeback. The Raiders shot 23 of 31 from the free-throw line tonight, which is 74%. This is almost a 20% improvement from last week in the District tournament.


“It was great to see our improvement,” said C.J. Anthony. “Our preparation this week and weekend were key to our big team win.”


Coffee County had four guys finish in double digits scoring. Led by Trenton Scrivnor with 17 points. Anthony pitched in 15 off the bench. Jaxon Vaughn scored 13 more bench points for the Raiders and Phineas Rollman had 10.


Connor Shemwell scored the first 5 points of the game for Coffee County before going down with a right leg injury, he did not return.


“He’s our brother,” said Anthony. “We all came together to play for him.”


The Coffee County Lady Raiders opened the night by dominating Rockvale.


The Lady Raiders beat the Rockets 54-27.


Coffee County will host Oakland on Tuesday in the region semi-final game.


The Lady Raiders were led in scoring by sophomore Chloe Gannon with 20 points. Bella Vinson also pitched in 19.
