Murfreesboro police responded to a vandalism incident late last night at the historic downtown square.
According to police, the confederate statue near the courthouse was vandalized around 10:30 pm by someone in a light colored trench coat. The words "murderer, coward, ft. Pillow" and other markings were spray painted in pink on the statue.
The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department is taking over this investigation.
