East Side Elementary School will suspend on-campus learning on Monday, January 31,2022 and Tuesday, February 1, 2022, due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases among students and staff.

The school has released new statistics indicating 50% of the staff and 7% of students have tested positive for coronavirus.

Cannon County School Director William Freddy Curtis announced, “We have been in consultation with the Tennessee Department of Education and have been approved for a COVID-19 Relief Waver”.

Curtis stated the two days of remote learning will be utilized for "deep cleansing and allowing time for these possible exposures and cases to diminish”. The school will resume to on-campus learning on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. Extracurricular activities slated on those days will be rescheduled at a later date.
