Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is proposing a $100 million dollar two-week sales tax holiday on restaurants, bars, and groceries.
This proposal is based on extra spending money due to better than expected revenues during the pandemic.
The plan has drawn scrutiny from the state's top teacher advocacy group, The Tennessee Education Association. The association states that now is the time to include a much bigger investment in public schools over anything else.
The spending proposal must pass the republican controlled general assembly and the dates of the proposed sales tax holiday have not yet been determined.
