Lady Raiders ready for NCAA Tournament

By DeAndre Williams MTN Sports Reporter March 20, 2021 After battling through a difficult season, games being canceled or postponed, COVID-19 issues, and winning the C-USA tournament, the MTSU Lady Raiders find themselves in the NCAA tournament as a 14th seed against 3rd seed Tennessee (16-7).

“Very appreciative of the committee for placing us in the tournament… I’m telling you right now they are better than a 14th seed but we will take it [14th seed] and play on,” said head coach Rick Insell on their seeding.

The Lady Raiders missed a few games at the beginning of the season due to Covid as well as later down the season due to inclement weather. Teams must play at least 13 games to be eligible to play in the NCAA tournament.

The team was isolated in quarantine for two days upon arrival in San Antonio earlier this week. Also every player and staff in the tournament is wearing a bracelet tracker to assure COVID guidelines are being followed.

The Lady Raiders are 0-2 against the Lady Vols all time. Their most recent matchup was in 2009 at home losing 69-52. Tipoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. on ABC.
