By: MTN Sports Reporter Zachary Sisco The sun will be shining bright as the Blue Raiders travel to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Rice.
The Middle Tennessee State University women’s soccer team is taking on a familiar foe in the Rice Owls. Rice is a team that the Blue Raiders lost to earlier in the season in a dramatic overtime game. Rice got the scoring started early in that game as Natalie Gorji netted her third goal of the season. Campbell Kivisto knotted the game back up for the Blue Raiders when she scored her second goal of the year just before the seventy-fifth minute. The final blow was delivered by Delaney Schultz as she buried a header off of a corner kick in extra time, getting the win for Rice at a final score of 2 to 1.
The Raiders have some momentum on their side as they notched a clutch home victory last week over Marshall to secure their spot in the tournament, and if they are hoping to advance far into the tournament, they will be relying on their seniors to lead the way. Here is coach Aston Rhoden with his thoughts on the impact the seniors have had on the team.
"It's been invaluable. You know just to see their growth in terms of just being able to lead the team. So I mean, a lot of it is not even so much what you see on the field but a lot of things that only the people within the team knows and knows the value that those kids brought in terms of helping the team to stay together, helping them through tough times, and certainly helping them with their own personal experiences throughout the years," said Rhoden.
The Raiders will be relying on this leadership in what is going to be an exciting matchup.
