The defending C-USA champion Blue Raiders will be looking to go back to back this weekend and advance to the NCAA tournament. The last C-USA tournament took place in 2019, because last year's tournament had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Fortunately for MTSU, they had a very young team at the time and are going at it again with almost the same roster.
“I think having a very similar team to last year certainly helps a lot, we are very close to each other and we know each other really well. Having experience to win a championship just bonds us together. Having this experience is a great first step into the tournament,” said senior Max Rauch.
No. 1 seed MTSU will be facing off in the first round against no. 8 seed UAB. These two teams never got the chance to meet during the regular season because the game was cancelled. However, according to MTSU head tennis coach Jimmy Borendame, confidence and experience will be the key to success.
“ We have been in these matches, we have been in the conference championship, we have been down match points, we have battled there. We have confidence from achieving these goals in the past,” said Borendame.
The match is Friday at 1 p.m. at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte, NC.
