MTSU VS Marshall Senior Night

By: MTN Sports Reporter Jonathan Helwig

MTSU defeats Marshall at home 3-2 to finish off the regular season before they face the Rice Owls in the C-USA Quarterfinals. MTSU goes into next week’s tournament with some momentum after MTSU’s Peyton DePriest and Kirstine Lykke both have big games for the Blue Raider offense.

Peyton DePriest after a long five-year career for the Blue Raiders finished the season by breaking the record for all-time scoring record for C-USA. DePriest was quoted as saying, “Obviously I am proud of my individual achievements, but I have bigger goals for this conference tournament”.

Not only did DePriest have a big game, but Blue Raiders Kristine Lykke and Taylor Hamlett finished as the team’s offensive and defensive players of the game. Lykke recorded her first-career brace, here is what she had to say about it,” To be able to help them (my team) in this game makes me very happy, I am proud of this team”. Both goals scored by Lykke came within ten minutes of each other, one of those goals right at the end of the first half with two seconds remaining.

After the game, MTSU honored seniors Miya Lennon, Olivia Hansen, and Katie Thomas. Graduate students Peyton DePriest and Sam Debein were also honored.

Blue Raider coach Aston Rhoden mentioned that going into the game they wanted to get a physical and mental advantage. “I think getting that first goal that early really set the tone”.

MTSU will skip the first round of competition in the C-USA Tournament going into it as a No.2 seed. They will face off against the No.3 seed Rice Owls, who they lost to several weeks ago in an overtime heartbreaker. The rematch will take place at 10 A.M. on November 3rd in Florida.
