Middle Tennessee women’s basketball defeated the East Carolina Pirates Tuesday night.

The Lady Raiders fought hard and won 70-49 against the Pirates, but not without turning the ball over 20 times.

Head coach Rick Insell, who just entered his 17th season with the MTSU basketball program, said, “I’m not real happy with 29 turnovers, but I am happy that we won the game. We’ve got to do a lot better job with that. You know, we looked like freshman out there tonight.”

Several players stood out this game, notably Courtney Whitson and Ma'Anit, Isreal native Dor Saar. Whitson put up 21 points and made the first 3-pointer of the night and six rebounds.

Regarding her position on the team, Whitson said, “I’m a blue-collar player, that’s my style. Hopefully, like, when I go out to those rebounds that kind of sparks my offense. That’s also my role on this team is to go get those rebounds.”

Saar played a total of 32 minutes, put up 18 points, and made four out of six 3-pointers.

"We definitely need to eliminate these turnovers. I know we're going to work on it with coaches. We will get better, and we can be better," said Saar regarding preparation for the next game against Virginia Commonwealth University.

The Lady Raiders will go on the road to Richmond, Virginia to face off against VCU on Friday.
