The MTSU women’s soccer team was set host Lipscomb University in their season opener Thursday, but it was postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test in the Lipscomb bubble. It would have been a rematch between the two as Lipscomb won 1-0 in an exhibition before the season.

With the game being moved, the Blue Raiders will now open the season against Bellarmine at home on Sunday. It will be the first time the two teams have met in the last 20 years. It will also be the first time since 2016 that the Blue Raiders have opened the season in Dean A. Hayes Track and Stadium. That year, the Blue Raiders defeated Jacksonville State 1-0.

The Bellarmine Knights are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. In July of last year, Bellarmine University was elevated from Division-II to Division-I making it the only private Division-I university in Kentucky.

MTSU will start the season ranked fourth amongst the East Division of Conference USA schools. Peyton DePriest, a senior forward, was named to the conference’s preseason team as well as being named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. DePriest was the only Blue Raider to be named to the preseason team.

Kick-off on Sunday is set for 1 p.m.
