Raiders on the Rise

After weather delays MTSU captured a victory over #48 ranked Tulane in the 74th Annual Blue and Gray tournament, and won the Doubles Point against #19 ranked Arizona around 10 pm, Friday February 25th. They are set to resume the singles matches at noon on Saturday as the Raiders hot streak continues.

The ITA Division I Men’s National Team Rankings came out on February 23rd. MTSU Men’s Tennis team has had a great season so far and is nationally ranked No. 30 and also has a nationally ranked doubles pair and two single players as well. This includes doubles pair Oskar Brostrom-Poulsen and Francisco Rocha, as well as singles competitors Stijn Slump who is ranked No. 80 in the Singles Ranking while Francisco Rocha sits at the No. 115 spot.

So far this season, MTSU Men’s Tennis has played 8 different Power 5 opponents. Out of these 8 schools, MTSU has won 5 of them and defeated 3 of them consecutively. The Blue Raiders defeated a top 25 ranked school for the first time in Coach Jimmy Borendame's career, it was the first time in almost two decades for MTSU.

Our Blue Raiders won against University of Indiana on February 13th, 4-0. We also won against University of Auburn on the 18th, 4-2, and won against Michigan State University on the 20th, 5-2. We clinched the doubles point for all of these matches.

In their match against all three Power 5 schools Chris Edge, who is C-USA Athlete of the Week, won his singles matches, including a win over Auburn ranked #85 player Tad Maclean. Stijn Slump also won his matches against University of Indiana and Auburns #84 ranked singles player Jan Galka. Stephan Holis also won his matches against University of Indiana and Michigan State University.
