Scammers are now using AI to manipulate voices in their phone scams,
causing an uptick in theft in the area as of late.
These scammers are using voices such as the Rutherford County Sheriff’s
Department to convince residents to cooperate with the trick.
An AI creation of RCSO Captain Holten's voice is telling residents to pay
$7500 in Bitcoin to avoid jail time.
A resident has already been a victim of the scam, following the
instructions and sending bitcoin to the scammer.
The Sheriff’s Office said they will not call to demand money and urge
residents to hang up or not answer the call.
