Stewarts Creek’s stingy defense and a dominate second quarter led to their 71-42 win over district rival Siegel. The Lady Red Hawks recovered from their slow start in the first quarter as they outscored Siegel by 16 points in the second.
“I thought we came out slow tonight,” Stewarts Creek coach Bianca Hensley said. “We did a really good job on the defensive end, but there are things we need to work on.”
Stewarts Creek improved to 20-7 with the victory and now move on to face Riverdale in the semifinals.
“Riverdale is a solid team,” Hensley said. “They have one of the best players in the state in (Alasia) Hayes, so we will have to contain her. Hopefully we can play together and pull off a win to advance to the district championship.”
Siegel’s many turnovers in the first half took them out of the game early and they never recovered. The loss ends their season, as they finish with a record of 6-19.
Kamaria Hurse and Zhordan Shannon led the Lady Red Hawks with 13 points each.
Siegel guard Serenity Lillard led all scorers with 15 points.
