SUMMERTOWN DERAILS EAGLEVILLE 56-25 BEHIND A TENACIOUS DEFENSE

By Zachary Reaves - MTN Sports Reporter

Going into Thursday’s matchup between the two squads, each team was looking to extend their current winning streaks in front of an eager crowd at Eagleville High School. Summertown was riding an 11-game win streak while Eagleville came in winning their last four. The teams met at the beginning of the season and it ended with Summertown dominating and winning the game by double figures. Eagleville would try their best to reverse their fortune this time around.

Both teams were sloppy to begin the game as each team made uncharacteristic mistakes by committing turnovers. The two teams began the game using the same zone defense and each team had trouble executing. The team that settled into the game first was the Lady Eagles of Summertown, as they began the first quarter on an 11-0 run before Eagleville could find any answer. Eagleville would cut the deficit before Summertown would seize control of the first half as they led going into the break.

The second half would be a repeat of the first as Summertown came out swinging to extend their lead. Eagleville would continue to fight, but the combination turnovers and many empty possessions on offense kept the Lady Eagles from having a chance in the game.

The trio of Rylee Long, Hailey Jones, and Ansley Burleson led Summertown in scoring as they each had 11 apiece.

Eagleville’s leading scorer was Anna Grace Clement who had 10 on the night.

Both teams look ahead to their next matchups as Summertown takes on Frank Hughes and Eagleville takes on Huntland.
