Volleyball falls to rival Western Kentucky on Senior Day

By MTN Reporter: Dawson Riggons

MTSU’s volleyball team faced off against rival Western Kentucky in the final home matches of the season.

The Hilltoppers entered the matchup ranked #23 in the nation and in the middle of a 19-game winning streak. The Blue Raiders looked to snap that streak and extend their own 10-game winning streak to celebrate senior night.

Unfortunately for MTSU, that would not be the case as Western Kentucky dominated in a three-set victory by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-16.

Despite the loss, seniors Daisa Smith and Kaylee Oscarson led the team with 12 kills each while Taylor Eisert recorded 29 assists on Friday night.

Saturday’s match started in the same way as Friday with a Hiltopper victory in the first set. MTSU finally broke through with a 25-21 victory in the second set. However, Western Kentucky responded with back-to-back victories to win the match in four sets.

Oscarson and Eisert continued to shine for the Blue Raiders. The graduate student recorded 10 kills and 5 total blocks in the match and Eisert tallied 44 throughout the match.

Western Kentucky extends their win streak to 21 consecutive games including an undefeated 16-0 Conference-USA record. MTSU finishes with an 11-5 conference record following the losses.

The Hilltoppers claim the #1 seed in the Conference-USA tournament while the Blue Raiders fall to the #3 seed in the standings
