Volleyball splits two matches on the road against FIU

By MTN Sports Reporter: Dawson Riggins

The Blue Raiders volleyball team traveled to Miami and split their two matches against the FIU Panthers.

The Panthers entered the match with a 4-0 record in conference play. MTSU looked to hand FIU their first Conference-USA loss of the season.

Tuesday’s match went back and forth as the Blue Raiders and Panthers each one two of the first four sets. Ultimately FIU took the win in the fifth set to keep their undefeated start to conference play alive.

Despite the loss, two Blue Raiders reached career milestones in this match. Senior Kayla Henley reached 1,000 career kills and senior Taylor Eisert became the fourth player to reach 3,000 career assists over her career.

Wednesday’s match was another highly competitive matchup with the Panthers taking 2 of the first three matches. However, the Blue Raiders rallied back by scores of 26-24 and 15-8 to take down FIU.

The victory gave the Panthers their first conference loss while also bringing MTSU back to a 3-3 record in C-USA play.

The Blue Raiders return home this weekend for two matches against the new conference member Sam Houston Bearkats.
