MTSU Soccer gets road win against Jacksonville State with the end of the regular season in sight.
The Blue Raiders started off well in both halves with Manon Lebargy and Ellie Gough getting goals off set pieces and Cambell Kivisto adding third goal in the 60th minute to end the game 3-0 in an impressive performance for MTSU.
Set pieces were the difference in the game with MTSU’s first two goals coming from those areas. “We’ve been fairly consistent with them, and we knew that was an area we needed to exploit with this team.” Aston Rhoden said. “It was good to see us execute those almost to perfection with a couple goals.”
Keeping the lead would be challenging for the Blue Raiders but they were able to hold their own defensively. Aston Rhoden said, “The big thing for us was to not let them get in a rhythm.” Continuing, “To try and maintain possession as long as we can while progressing upfield and I think we did very well.”
This win comes late in the season for MTSU and are unable to compete in the conference tournament starting November 1st in Ruston, Louisiana. The Blue Raiders will be looking forward to Friday in their last match of the season against FIU at 7 p.m. at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
